Hello, Reclaimed !

Chairmakers have been using tapered tenons for decades, and for good reason–not many joints get tighter when more weight is applied to them. But, there is no reason to relegate the use of tapered-tenons to chairmaking. These joints are a great way of quickly making lots of furniture. The ability to turn a consistent taper, and a tapered reamer are all that's required, and few woodworkers are more capable of teaching both technique than Peter Galbert.

Peter will be a featured instructor at Fine Woodworking HANDS ON, February 1-3 in Tampa, Florida. Peter will be teaching a hands-on class on turning furniture parts. Turned parts can add great interest to furniture, but turning is a distinct skill set from most other forms of woodworking. With the right approach and a bit of practice, turning can become an enjoyable and rapid means for making furniture. This hands-on class will offer insights into turning concepts as well as techniques that will enable makers to incorporate turning as a productive part of their workshop routine.

“In each of my pieces I try to evoke the sense of tranquility that one often finds during a quiet walk in the woods. Many of my sculptural pieces create a restful place on which my turned work sits.”
