VIDEO         PLANS & PROJECTS        HOW-TO         WORKSHOP         TOOL GUIDE

Fine Woodworking has covered a wide variety of shooting boards over the years, and while all of them work beautifully, wouldn’t it be wonderful to distill all those great designs into one perfect board?

Furniture maker and teacher Timothy Rousseau has done just that. By combining the best elements of a variety of shooting board designs, he’s come up with a benchtop gem that’s perfect for squaring up furniture parts quickly and easily.

Tim will be a featured presenter at Fine Woodworking Live 2018, demonstrating his pattern-shaping technique. The addition of curves and other non-linear shapes to your furniture can make it more lively and attractive, but producing a set of identically shaped, or even closely shaped, parts can be difficult and time-consuming. However, if you rout those parts flush to a pattern, you can knock out a set of legs or aprons in no time, and they'll all be exactly the same. In his class, you'll learn about the different types of templates used in pattern routing, with an emphasis on safety, accuracy, and how to make them quickly. Register today!

Soundproof a Basement Shop

Mark Corke’s plan muffles both vibratory and airborne noise, and he offers handy, inexpensive tips along the way, such as installing rubber feet for his machines. He explains the importance of insulating the foundation, along with insulating the ceiling and air ducts.
