THE DAILY BUZZ   Logging and Preservation in Sonoma County Forest   'Light Touch' timber harvesting is the plan for a 19-thousand plus acre parcel in Sonoma County recently purchased by the Conservation Fund. The forest, which was proposed to be planted for vineyards, will become part of 75,000 acres managed by the fund. According to Chris Kelly, California Program director for the Conservation Fund, the intention is to remove small and weak trees to promote the growth of larger stronger ones. "Larger trees produce better lumber and larger trees produce better habitat," said Kelly. "So managing in a manner that we get larger trees faster is good for the economy and it's good for the environment." ...Click here to read the rest of this article.
