| Oregon loggers are considering a logging project in the +1,000 square mile area surrounding Chernobyl in the former Soviet Union. The area, overgrown and unlogged since the accident in 1986, presents a significant wildfire threat complicated by the possibility of radioactive smoke. | Lumber futures fell for the third consecutive day to prices not seen since early December. The now "spot" May contract fell to a low of $336.00 and the new lead July and September contracts touched down the $10.00 daily limit to $340.50 and $336.90 respectively. | U.S. stocks closed higher yesterday as U.S. consumer confidence gained and investors bet on central banks worldwide continuing their efforts to stimulate economies. In New York, the Dow Jones rose by 21.05 points to 14,839.80. Canadian stocks advanced, erasing a loss for the year, as energy and technology shares gained on data showing the economy's quarterly growth was the strongest in two years.
