Swing Set

Swing Set

My little girl turns 3 this weekend and loves to play outside. For her birthday, I promised her a "park" in the backyard. After looking at multiple swingsets and realizing that those people have lost their minds wanting $2000 for a cheap kit, I decided to build my own.

I set all 4×4's in 18" of concrete and then put 2×6s bolted with 1/2 inch bolts for the support to make the two 4ft by 4 ft decks. It's pretty much built the same way that one would go about building an elevated deck. Because the upper platform is a little over 5 feet off the ground, I went with 2×4 railing instead of the smaller spindles. It took me about 3 days to build which was well worth the savings. The hardest part was putting together that (%& slide.

"Drill as many holes as you want. We have plenty of putty."

Summary:

Slide ~ $400 (119 bolts just to make it a tube in case anyone is wondering)Swings ~ $150Wood ~ $350Nuts/Bolts/Screws ~ $100

I saved about $1,000 and have a much stronger and better built swing-set than I could have gotten for more than twice the money. The thought that my little girl will be able to look back at what her daddy made for her as a kid is just an added bonus!
