Retirement gift box

Retirement gift box

This is a Retirement gift I made (with the help from my good friend Andy Anderson) for a good coworker who just retired last week. I work for the Railroad and the box is made from some oak 3×4 posts off of a flat car. I quarter sawed it on my table saw & planed it down to the same thickness. After I glued my panels up I took it over to Andy's and he helped me put the rest of it together. We used some walnut that he had in the shop for the panel on the lid and the splines. I didn't realize that I had quarter sawed the wood until Andy pointed that out to me. I thought that I had messed it up when I cut it cause it had the funny looking rays in the grain. It turned out looking better than I could have imagined. Thanks for all the help Andy.
