| Tough Love for Fir Trees |

| In an effort to identify individual trees with superior resistance to fungus and root rot, 5,000 Douglas Fir seedlings are being intentionally infected in BC greenhouses. Half will be infected with a fungus typically carried by the Douglas Fir beetle, the other half by two different forms of root rot. | Lumber futures put in an outside day trading above and below the previous day's range in thinly traded light volume. Prices dipped in the after-hours market on follow through long liquidation after closing lower Monday but rebounded on profit taking short covering in front of the expected bullish New Home Sales report.
